What Is a Buyer’s Agent in Real Estate?

    A real estate agent owes a fiduciary duty to his client. This means the agent must act in the best interest of the client, regardless of the agent’s own needs. When that client is a buyer, the real estate agent is the buyer’s agent. Showing property to a buyer does not necessarily classify the buyer as the agent’s client. Laws defining this agency relationship vary by state.
